Agentic AI Developer

Agentic AI Developer and Workflow Expert

Engagement: API Factory — Phase 1 (POC/MVP)

Target start: As soon as possible, ideally September 2026

Role Summary

Embedded with the customer's team for the API Factory proof of concept, this person will build the AI-assisted, template-driven workflow that turns IBM i/RPG programs into microservice APIs and then orchestrates them into business APIs (starting with the sales order use case), while establishing the human-in-the-loop governance checkpoints our customer requires before any AI-generated code is accepted.

Key Responsibilities

·      Co-design and document the API Factory framework/architecture — inputs, outputs, and governance gates — with our customer. (Deliverable 1)

·      Build and refine the AI-assisted, template-driven process for generating microservice APIs from nominated IBM i/RPG programs. (Deliverable 2)

·      Design and prototype the orchestration layer that composes microservice APIs into a single business-object API, using the sales order process as the initial reference case. (Deliverable 3)

·      Define and operate the human-in-the-loop review/approval checkpoints for all AI-generated code produced during the engagement. (Deliverable 5)

·      Work day-to-day alongside our customer's own RPG/IBM i-knowledgeable staff to translate legacy program behavior into the new API model.

Required Skills / Qualifications

·      Demonstrated experience building or orchestrating agentic AI / LLM-driven developer workflows, including AI-assisted code generation with human review gates.

·      Strong API design experience, specifically business-service / domain-object API design — not simply exposing existing functions one-for-one.

·      Comfort working from a “contract-first” specification toward a working implementation guided by business (not just technical) definitions.

·      Experience establishing governance/review processes for AI-generated code in, or adjacent to, a production environment.

Nice to Have

·      RPG / IBM i (AS/400) development experience or exposure.

·      Awareness of IBM's emerging AI tooling for the IBM i / AS400 platform (e.g. Watson-family tools).

·      Experience with ERP or high-volume online transaction processing (OLTP) systems.

Why This Role

This is a chance to sit at the sharp end of enterprise AI adoption — turning decades of battle-tested RPG logic into modern, business-aligned APIs, and defining the human-in-the-loop guardrails that let AI-generated code earn trust in a live production environment.
