AI Data Modeling Engineer

Engagement: API Factory — Phase 1 (POC/MVP)

Target start: As soon as possible, ideally September 2026

Role Summary

Embedded with our customer's team for the API Factory proof of concept, this person will define how the customer's legacy IBM i data and program structures map to clean, business-terminology-aligned data models and API object schemas — the foundation the orchestration APIs (and, later, MCP skills) are built on — strictly through the API layer.

Key Responsibilities

·      Design the data/object model for orchestrated business APIs.

·      Lead alignment of API and data field naming to our customer's business terminology, in partnership with our customer's product management glossary work.

·      Define the data-access pattern for AI agent consumption strictly through the API layer, with no direct or indirect database access, consistent with our customer's stated data-governance position.

·      Contribute the data-related inputs, outputs, and validation rules to the API Factory framework.

Required Skills / Qualifications

·      Strong data modeling / schema design experience, including mapping legacy or sparsely-documented back-end structures to clean, semantically meaningful object models.

·      Experience preparing data and object models for consumption by AI agents or LLM-based tools.

·      Ability to work directly with business stakeholders (product management) to translate business terminology into formal data models.

·      Understanding of data governance / access-control considerations for high-volume production transactional systems.

Nice to Have

·      RPG / IBM i (AS/400) experience, or prior experience mapping legacy ERP data structures.

·      ERP domain knowledge.

·      Experience defining data contracts in a “contract-first” delivery model.
