Case Study Overview

Cyberport is a German e-commerce company based in Dresden. It was founded in 1998 and is part of Hubert Burda Media. Cyberport started out as an online store for Apple computers and developed into one of the largest retailers of consumer electronics in Germany.

The ever-increasing speed and intensity of competition, particularly in the consumer electronics sector, demanded the introduction of a new product information system (PIM).

In addition to a reduction in maintenance costs, this included greater time-to-market capability, dynamic price adjustment, a high degree of automation in the purchasing process via a configurable rulebook and monitoring of supply chains.

However, replacing such a system is extremely complex. Not only did the previous PIM have to be replaced, but all associated processes had to be revised and transferred to integrated systems such as SAP or pricing services. Also, the interaction of all systems and components had to be tested to ensure business operations despite extensive changes to the IT architecture.

K&C was responsible for the entire test management and defect management. This included the organisation and control of all test stages, including preparation and follow-up work and the time and organizational coordination of the testers, as well as the control and monitoring of defect handling. This also included regularly informing stakeholders about test and defect progress (reporting).
